All Smart Bidding is automated bidding, but not all automated bidding is Smart Bidding. Smart Bidding specifically refers to conversion-based strategies (Target CPA, Target ROAS, Maximize Conversions, Maximize Conversion Value). Maximize Clicks is automated but not Smart Bidding because it does not optimize for conversions.
The learning period typically lasts 1-2 weeks, during which performance may fluctuate. Google labels campaigns as 'Learning' during this phase. Avoid making major changes during the learning period as it resets the algorithm. After learning completes, evaluate performance over 2-4 weeks before adjusting targets.
Smart Bidding can work with small budgets if you have enough conversions. The critical factor is conversion volume (30+ per month), not budget size. A small-budget campaign with high conversion rates may outperform a large-budget campaign with sparse conversions. Start with Maximize Conversions before adding CPA targets.
